The Taoiseach's office selected Criostal na Rinne to make the crystal shamrock bowl which was presented to US President, Donald J. Trump as part of the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the White House. The tradition of the shamrock presentation ceremony stretches back over 60 years to the 1950's, with the first crystal bowl carrying the shamrock presented to President John F. Kennedy in the early 1960's.
Eamonn Terry started his career in Waterford Crystal where he became a master craftsman glass cutter before starting his own crystal craft studio, Criostal na Rinne, in the Waterford Gaeltacht of An Rinn. Eamonn's design for the bowl is inspired by the artwork from the Book of Kells, one of Ireland’s greatest cultural treasures.
The top of the bowl is scalloped to show the brilliance, shine and versatility of the medium of crystal. The principal design pattern is a series of deep intersecting trinity knots, an iconic symbol of Ireland. Polished shamrocks are engraved into panels on the bowl to mark the occasion and an uncut panel is engraved with the inscription. Near the base interwoven Celtic lace cuts represent the strong ties between Ireland and the United States of America.
Now you can commission your very own shamrock bowl! The design is available on both the original 9 inch footed bowl as well as a 7 inch footed bowl. The beautiful design can be cut around the bowl in it's entirety or a blank panel can be engraved with artwork or an inscription of your choice. This unique mouthblown and handcut crystal bowl from Co. Waterford would make an excellent wedding gift, golfing trophy or addition to your crystal collection!
